Hybrid/electric race a non-starter

It was really quite remarkable. I nearly fell off my chair when I heard that, at the recent G8 meeting, Gordon Brown was effectively trying to dictate technology policy by saying that all British motorists will be driving electric or hybrid cars by 2020. Eh?

The tanker drivers’ strike was too short. Here was a genuine opportunity to give people a real taste of what life is going to be like in just a few short years if we continue to do nothing about liquid fuels, and we blew it.

Here’s a thought for all those now basking in the Houston heat. Having demonstrated their stupidity in lending on so-called “sub-prime” mortgages, how do we know that the financial institutions won’t make – or already have made – the same mistakes in the energy sector?
